The kia forte is a compact sedan that has been a staple in Kia’s lineup for quite some time. Known for its practicality and affordability, the Forte has also managed to incorporate a range of modern features, making it a strong contender in the compact car segment. While it carries stylish little sedan with a sporty appearance, but don’t let that deceive you—its best feature isn’t how much fun it is to drive, but rather how easy it is on your wallet.

Front-drive and a sluggish 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine come standard. Although it’s more than capable of cruising around town, the GT variant is a better option if you want to have some fun while driving. The GT adds a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine and a six-speed manual or dual-clutch automatic transmission to the already sporty-looking vehicle.

Although the GT’s chassis tuning falls short of those of sport sedan competitors such as the VW Jetta GLI or Honda Civic Si, the turbo-four does offer some punch. What the Forte series does provide is value, with four elegant trim levels offering a plethora of standard amenities at incredibly cheap price points. This is further enhanced by an excellent powertrain warranty that outperforms that of Mercedes-Benz or BMW.

The kia forte comes in various types, each designed to cater to different preferences and needs. Here’s an overview of the primary types available:

Kia Forte LX

The lowest model in the Forte lineup is the Forte LX. A 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that offers a good balance between performance and fuel efficiency powers it. A number of technologies are included as standard with the LX, such as an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, smartphone integration (with support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay), and a number of driver aid functions. For anyone looking for a reasonably priced and well-equipped small car, this is a fantastic choice.

Kia Forte GT-Line

The kia forte GT-Line builds upon the LX’s foundation with a focus on sportier styling and performance. It retains the same 2.0-liter engine but adds various exterior and interior enhancements, such as 17-inch alloy wheels, a rear spoiler, and more distinctive front and rear fascias. The GT-Line is an excellent choice for drivers who want a touch of sportiness in their Forte.

Kia Forte EX

Forte EX takes a step up in terms of features and engine performance. It’s powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, just like the LX and GT-Line. However, it offers more premium features, such as a power sunroof, leatherette upholstery, and a 10.25-inch touchscreen display. The EX trim is ideal for those who value additional comfort and technology.

Kia Forte GT

The Kia Forte GT is the sport-oriented trim in the lineup. It features a more potent 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that provides a significant boost in power and performance. This engine comes paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission for precise gear shifts. The GT trim also includes sport-tuned suspension, 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, and distinctive styling elements. It’s perfect for drivers who want a sporty driving experience in their Forte.

Two distinct engine options are available for the Forte compact sedan: a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 147 horsepower and a 1.6-liter four-cylinder with 201 horsepower that is turbocharged. When we tested the 2.0-liter, it seemed slow, and the continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) didn’t make it any better. The Forte’s non-turbo engine needed 8.2 seconds to propel it to 60 mph on our test track, which is significantly slower than the Mazda 3’s 7.0-second time.

On the other hand, the kia forte approaches the performance of the Volkswagen Golf GTI and Civic Si with the optional 201-hp turbocharged engine. A GT test car with a manual transmission raced to 60 mph in 6.7 seconds at our test track, just missing those two remarkable times. Even in the sportier GT edition, the Forte’s handling lacks the thrill factor that its Stinger-inspired outward style would imply. Nevertheless, it still provides a pleasant and steady ride. In fact, we had to put in more effort in the Forte to keep up with the pack when we raced it against the Civic Si and the Jetta GLI in a recent comparison test.

Forte’s Interior and Comfort

We were pleasantly surprised by the car’s inside, which had premium materials and a clean design. Long road journeys in the Forte are trouble-free since the rear seat has ample room for two persons to sit comfortably. All the essential features are included in the base model, but as you move up through the different models, the experience gets better.

For example, heated and ventilated front seats are optional, as is dual-zone automatic climate control. The Forte could accommodate seven carry-on bags with all seats up, which is one more than each of its two main competitors, the Honda Civic or the Toyota Corolla.

With the technology that is offered, the 2022 Forte is a great value. While the kia forte GT-Line and GT models come with a larger 10.3-inch display with in-dash navigation and SiriusXM satellite radio, the base infotainment touchscreen is an 8.0-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth, wireless Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Between the gauges on all models is a secondary 4.2-inch color display; also, a wireless smartphone charging pad is an optional feature.

A few standard and optional driver-assistance systems are available from Kia, such as the adaptive cruise control option, which uses navigation to anticipate future curves in the road and reduces the vehicle’s speed accordingly. The Kia Forte’s important safety features include:

  • Standard automatic emergency braking and forward collision warning
  • Standard lane-keep assistance and land-departure warning
  • Adaptive cruise control with lane-following assistance is also available.
